Given our dependence on digital communication, I rarely if ever use a graphite pencil. Recently someone handed me a Ticonderoga #2 pencil and I was transported back to grade school. I wanted to make a mosaic to remind me of this pleasant experience and the importance of physically writing text. The mosaic consists of smalti and stone and was made using the direct method.
